KNOCK-OFF SPRINKLERS

It started with gadgets, moved on to cars and even planes—and today we even have sprinkler knock-offs.
What can be done? The Israelis have a solution.

In the aftermath of a global financial crisis, people think about saving money first. Even in the field of irrigation, where the irrigation systems are meant to last many years, quality takes a backseat to price. This is where the counterfeiters find their market. These counterfeiters, mainly from the Far East, provide cheap and low quality sprinklers. Unfortunately, the accumulative damage they cause is not sensed right away.

Avinoam Levanon, NaanDanJain's senior VP of Marketing and Sales says, “In order to fight the counterfeiting phenomenon, we look at the system from a completely different angle; not through the individual sprinkler but rather through the irrigated field. Our solution is to introduce irrigation systems with bigger gaps.  Instead of 10-12 meters between sprinklers, there are 18-24 meters. This system is particularly effective when the price of an individual sprinkler is 5% of the overall system. This is how we fight counterfeiters in the other 95% of the irrigated field.”

“Additionally,” Levanon states, “we develop and register patents for unique irrigation solutions. For instance, the new SD6025 sprinkler includes a water- conducting iris (without a hydraulic barrier) and a single nozzle, in order to increase the sprinkler’s range, as well as a unique dispensing hammer, for covering areas near the sprinkler. Even the more veteran sprinkler, the double-nozzled SD 5022, has now received a unique dispenser that improves its performance.”
